Television has changed the way we view the world and now scientists are looking at how humans will behave in a future with more powerful, long range communication devices such as; Multinational communication systems (microwaves, optical fibers and electric beams) and Mobile phones. One of the hottest topics in the field of science fiction is; “How Will Humans Connect With Each Other using Multi-Phone Technology?” (You can read the full article on Starlog Magazine Online)
We now use one voice for personal communication and several for business; when one calls another it’s not just one call but several. The voice is coupled with data and distributed over massive distances; and one sends data to another by voice. This is called; Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP for short. Just a few years ago this technology was developed and brought to market by; Cisco; who at that time were considered the giants of fiber optic networking.
This fiber optic revolution expanded into voice communication. And just like the other communication media, it required specialized equipment and very fast internet connections. This makes it impractical for regular people to use it. Even though regular phones work just fine, they are not suitable for making long distance calls due to the lack of radio signals. The same applies to wireless phones.
Now if you will recall your primary school science teacher; Dr. Edison, he once said “The man who wears the pants closest to the body is the one who likes it most.” And with that statement, he inadvertently pointed to the future of communication and one that are the Multinational telephone. Once the phone has been established, it will change the way we communicate forever.
The Multinational phone consists of a headset which receives and transfers the information which is then sent to various units either by voice or data. It will also contain a data storage unit or microprocessor to store the incoming data in an easily readable format. One can talk on the phone and then immediately shut down the device. It is as easy as taking a breath; the headset does the rest.
When a company wants to send its workers a memo, employee answers the phone and then passes the information to the person who has set up the meeting. The worker is then credited in writing; thus preventing a gap in company time. In this way, the company maintains productivity levels. The employees can talk on the phone for hours and even weeks without taking their minds off the current project. They can chat about trivial subjects such as last week’s winning numbers or what food items were purchased over Christmas.
As for the speaker, once the data is transferred from the headset, the speaker’s volume can be adjusted, just as in a dictation device. No more will there be static and no more will there be the fear of one person talking over another. Everyone will hear everything that is being said by everyone else. For some, this may seem a little unnerving. However, as a technology, this is one of the most well-thought out features. It provides companies with peace of mind.
The technology used to transfer voice messages is the Wave Protocol Audio Converter. It was developed by Cisco Systems, a leader in networking equipment. Multitudes of organizations from all around the world have already made good use of it. Organizations that cannot afford the cost of such devices can always turn to teleconferencing.
The benefits of using this technology are numerous. There is no longer the issue of timing, as it is possible to speak before the other party is able to. This allows for free communication. If someone has a question, the other person does not need to wait for an answer. There is no need to physically meet and greet each other. People who might not have spoken for ages can converse easily and feel as though they are talking to their peers.
What makes this especially useful is that all the participants need to have compatible English speaking skills. This is because all the participants need to be able to hear each other’s voice. Anybody can join in the conversation. This is because the software will automatically adjust the volume levels. All calls made will be the same.
One of the nice features of using a teleconferencing service is the ability to adjust the quality of the voices. If some people wish to speak more slowly, then so can others. In the past the only option was to have everybody speak at the same speed. Now, with VoIP technology, the speed or pitch can be varied as desired.
